Ion exchange resins are spherical beads of functionalized polymers. They are used to remove dissolved compounds from liquids. They are selective for certain chemical species using specific functional groups. Water treatment is the most widely used application for ion exchange resins, but the uses of this technology are widespread and far reaching.
Other fields of application for ion exchange resins include semi-conductor production, galvanic industry (recovery and treatment of metals such as gold, copper, nickel or cobalt in hydrometallurgy), pharmaceuticals, and the food and beverage industry. Lewatit ion exchange resins are also reliable catalysts which are crucial for many chemical reactions.
Cwenga has been the distributor for Lanxess ion exchange resins since 2001.
