Use of ion exchange resin for the production of TAME and MTBE

Food

• Food resins are used for purification of sugar, sweeteners, glucose, fructose, syrups and fruit juices Lewatit ® food grade resins comply with current German legislation on food and food-contact uses and is chemically in compliance with the FDA regulations 21 CFR 173.25 (a). As well as in compliance with the European Resolution AP (97)-1 with regard to Total Organic Carbon (TOC) release according the AFNOR Test (method T90-601).

Industrial Water

Ultra pure water and demineralization of water This is the removal of salts such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulphate, nitrate and silica from water. o Softening Removal of hardness in the water – namely calcium and magnesium

Mining

• Recovery of valuable or toxic metals from tailings and waste streams o Removal of cobalt, vanadium, chromium as chromate, uranium, mercury, lead, copper, cadmium. Platinum group metals (PGM’s) and many others from waste streams. The advantages are that not only are trace metals recovered for profit but the waste stream is cleaned prior to being returned to rivers. • Process purification and recovery o Recovery of uranium from PLS o Recovery of gold from cyanide leach o Recovery of PGM’s o Recovery of cobalt, nickel, vanadium etc. o Purification of cobalt to advanced electrolytes including removal of cadmium, nickel, copper and zinc impurities. • Acid removal and recovery using acid retardation o Acid can be removed from process streams and recovered using acid retardation. The advantages are less neutralising agents and lower acid usage as the recovered acid can be reused. We have in house patented technology for this. o Possible applications are removal of excess acid from leachates, spent electrolytes & eluates

Potable Water

Main uses of ion exchange resins in potable water is the removal of nitrates, toxic heavy metals, dealkalisation and softening.
